Discover the Progressive Hounds Difference

Here at progressive hounds, my team and I are all about helping you to enjoy your dog’s company and be able to help your dogs through all of life’s potential situations.

Whether you are looking at creating that relationship with your new puppy/young exuberant dog or if your dog has already established some difficult and challenging behaviours that you are struggling to get on top of. I will show you how to guide them through new situations and to teach them how to behave accordingly.

First, you need to decide whether our method is the right fit for you and your dog.

I provide a balanced approach, using positive reinforcement which comes from us without needing to rely on external factors such as food or toy rewards. The good news is there is no need to worry about whether your dog’s hunger or desire for a toy or other external rewards is greater than their desire to do what you ask.

It’s also important to be able to let the dog know when they choose unacceptable or unsafe behaviours by using a consequence without the need to be harmful toward the dog.

There are two reasons why a dog might struggle to do what we ask.

Firstly, they don’t understand what we are asking. We are speaking two different languages and trying to understand each other. This can cause a breakdown in communication.

Secondly, they may know what you want but just don’t want to listen to you as they may be having way too much fun doing things their way to listen. Perhaps, they may not always trust you to take care of the situation and think they need to. Thus, we have a breakdown in our relationship.

I will help you create your very own language so that you both understand each other.

By teaching obedience exercises and teaching clear boundaries and guidelines within the home (where we spend a lot of time with our dogs) you are able strengthen your relationship so that your dog wants to listen and seek guidance from you.

Once we have a solid foundation, we can start tackling the more complex behavioural issues which may have arisen from communication, trust, and relationship breakdowns.

I’m here to support you in embarking on this journey with your dog and show you how to strengthen your relationship. I will guide you honestly and compassionately – having once been where you are now when I first started my own journey in training my dogs and eventually finding my passion as a dog trainer.

  • Yes we do! But the reward comes from us through praise and cuddles. We want our dogs to look to us for reward, not something external we have to remember to have with us

  • We use training head halters initially. They are gentle but precise in giving you better safety and control. They help you show your dog what we want while they a learning.

  • Yes, I will usually have at least one dog with me if it’s safe to do so. I want to be able to show you what we are striving towards. They will also help us create some distraction so you can teach your dog to listen to you regardless of who is around.

  • Yes, they love a good cuddle :)

  • They usually go for 1.5 to 2 hours in length. This allows us to go through the lesson but also give us plenty of time to check in and re-cap our week, homework and any questions you may have.

  • It’s totally up to you as I do offer an hourly service. However, I will always suggest a package as they are better value for you to purchase upfront. More importantly, it takes time and practice to learn something new and form lasting habits.

I can train dogs, but this is about you training your dog. I can’t be with you at home 24/7 but I am here to guide you through the process in how to do this yourself. You will make mistakes and your dog will make mistakes, but this is how we all learn.
